How Can A Process Ontology Aid Philosophical Theology?
Abstract
In this paper I hope to show how some version of a process ontology can be of help to philosophical theology. I do this by arguing it is 1) a vindication of the notion of God as existential and 2) a clarification of that term’s fundamental, and perhaps only possible, meaning for philosophy. To do this I examine, amongst others, the nature of causality in terms of Hume and Azadne and the nature of God in terms of Anselm and Kant. I conclude by considering the polyphonic nature of the universe. By this means, I argue that the formulation of an adequate philosophical theology just is the formulation of an adequate process ontology.
